Refugee Program on the streets of Valladolid

Refugee program on the streets of Valladolid   we came across a street poster program attempting to raise awareness of the plight of Refugees in Europe. Wish we had taken more pictures. The stories were so harrowing, yet also beautiful.  The poster says "Every human being has a seed to sow for everyone else. To live for others is to truly live. Don't stop giving what you have to other people who are in need. Let your solidarity rain down to sow the dry sands of the desert"

Fishermen seek the protection of the Virgen   The above link will show you a picture of a carving of the Virgen Maria that would have been placed at the front of a fishing boat to offer protection against the fury of el mar.

Agriculture in the Tramore Region

Agriculture in the Tramore Region   The above information was presented to the students in Spain. They were fascinated to learn about what it is like for many of the Irish students to live and work on a farm.

Why does Ireland not invest in our Coastal communities

Why does Ireland not invest in our coastal communities   Our time in Spain opened our eyes to the tragedy that is the Irish Fishing Industry.

Grace O'Sullivan MEP talks about Tramore Dump and the Environment of Tramore

Grace o'Sullivan talks to our Erasmus project   Our Spanish friends in Valladolid have similar stories to tell about how they have had to confront environmental issues in their area. They were shocked to learn that for so many years there was a rubbish dump in our beautiful back strand of Tramore.

Irish students in Spanish Classrooms

Teaching the Spanish kids about Ireland   The Irish students all got the opportunity to visit different classes in Las Augustinas School in Valladolid

Fish Species in the Bay Of Biscay and Cantabrian Sea

Fish Species in the Sea of Cantabria   In Santander we saw the fish species that live in the Bay Of Biscay between Ireland and Spain. Our time looking at the fishing industry in Spain makes us feel that it is possible to have a Fishing Industry and protect the local environment.

Fishing Companies local to Northern Spain

Local Products provide local jobs in Northern Spain Amazing to see how in every coastal town you can buy local canned fish that provides jobs to local people.

The Flight of The Earls and Valladolid

Red Hugh O Donnell and Valladolid Seems very strange that we had to go all the way to Northern Spain to learn about the History of Ireland.

Santander, Roman and Greek Trade

Greek and Roman Trade before Christ   Before the time of Christ there existed a huge trade in wine and olive oil between Spain[Iberia] and Rome and Greece. At the Nautical Museum in Santander we saw Amphorae that have been found off the northern coast of Spain. In Santander we learned that Spain was the the jewel in the Roman Empire until the domination of Egypt in later centuries.

El Museo Nautico de Santander

Nautical Aquarium and Museum Santander   There is a Fishing Industry in the North Of Spanish. In so many small towns along the coast you will find small canning factories that support the local fishing industry. The local fisheries use environmentally sound fishing methods to safeguard the environment and the future of the industry. Our time here has made us ask why in Ireland in small coastal towns we have almost no local Fishing Industry?

Erasmus Newspaper

Erasmus Newspaper   Here in our Erasmus Newspaper we describe our experiences in Spain and we also give you a look at the results of our investigations. When we originally began the project we lost our original partners in Cordoba, with whom we had developed the plan for our project, but we were very lucky to find new partners in Castile Leon. We think the most revealing and important part of our project were the interviews that we did with the Spanish and Irish Grandparents. From them we learned that we should and can have great hope in the future.

It is thanks to Erasmus that we have had so many amazing experiences in Spain over the years in the CBS Tramore and at Ardscoilnamara. First we have project partners from Castilla La Mancha in the same town of Porzuna. Then in 2023 we formed a new partnership with Las Augustinas in Castile León.
